Having made a splash in 1970 in the AAR Cuda, the 275-horsepower 340 package was back in 1971, marketed simply as the Cuda 340. It was a high-winding, nimble road hugger that, especially when equipped with the four-speed manual transmission, suffered little from encroaching pollution controls.

This Red 1971 4-speed was originally equipped as a straightforward performer in the minimalist tradition. While the Black “340” billboard graphic is typical of the period, the rest of this great-looking machine is all about the drive. The Black interior is equipped with bucket seats and a floor-mounted Pistol-grip shifter minus the optional console. The manual steering is for the driver seeking total control under all conditions.  

The segmented grille and taillights, quad headlights and imitation front fender vents give the car a sterner visage than the ’70 version and work well with the rare color-keyed elastomeric front bumper and optional driving lights. Chrome wheel arch trim, dual color-keyed mirrors, hood pins are optional extras, as are the Rally wheels, fitted in this case with BFG Radial T/A tires.

Collectors looking for a sharply turned out driver’s Cuda won’t want to miss this lively 1971 340 4-speed.
