DESCRIPTION*** Auction Selling Time For This Lot is Saturday 2:35 PM *** ***STAR CAR*** Few cars of any kind can compete with the Plymouth Superbird or its Dodge Daytona counterpart for sheer visual impact. The Plymouth’s pointed nosecone was longer and the rear wing higher and raked at a more acute angle than the Daytona’s, and the “Bird wore that cheeky “Road Runner” wing graphic to great effect. Three engine packages were available in the Superbird, the most popular being the base single-four-barrel 440 rated at 375 horsepower. The 440 Six Pack, a popular Mopar option, was rated at 390 horses and sold to over six hundred customers. Of course the most powerful, and the one that pushed the car to the front of the NASCAR grid, was the 426 Hemi version, of which a mere 93 copies were built. This pristine Yellow 1970 Plymouth Superbird was delivered from the factory equipped with the 375-horsepower 440 4-barrel and a Hurst-shifted 4-speed. It has since been equipped with properly set-up Six Pack carburetion that runs like a factory unit, while the original 4-barrel components are still available for re-installation. A clean and correct numbers-matching collectible in a very desirable configuration, this gorgeous Superbird is also equipped with power steering and brakes.
