DESCRIPTION

*** Auction Selling Time For This Lot is Saturday 2:40 PM ***

A year after Dodge built a homologation run of 500 Daytona coupes to qualify them for NASCAR, Plymouth replied with its own version of the “winged warrior” for 1970. By that time the NASCAR rules makers had upped the minimum production requirement to one car per dealership, resulting in the production of 1,920 Plymouth Superbirds. This White 1970 Superbird is the very last such car built, number 1920.

This is one of two magnificent Superbirds in the Lehuede Collection. The car was completely and correctly restored in 2002 in strict adherence with its original option codes as confirmed by Galen Govier. A numbers-matching 440 Six Pack car, it is equipped with Chrysler’s heavy duty A-727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the Performance Axle Package and beefy Hemi suspension. The Black vinyl roof, power steering, power brakes, hood pins and aerodynamic windshield moldings are all standard Superbird equipment, as are the Plymouth and Road Runner decals, while the Black interior features optional vinyl high-back bucket seats and console with shifter. The Rallye wheels and F60 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires are correct and as original.

With a mere 36,000 miles on the odometer, this Alpine White beauty’s documentation includes build sheets, Govier decoding and a copy of the original window sticker, and is listed in the Chrysler Registry.

This very special ‘Bird also possesses one exclusive extra touch: the rear wing has been autographed by the King himself, seven-time NASCAR Champion Richard Petty, who drove his Petty Enterprises Superbird to eight wins in 1970.
