DESCRIPTION***The Auction Selling Time For This Lot is Saturday 2:25 PM *** Any conversation about Chrysler’s awesome fleet of Hemi-powered musclecars eventually gets down to numbers. Usually the first two figures raised are the disingenuous factory ratings of 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, then NHRA-record elapsed times. With the 1968 Dodge Hemi Charger R/T, another important tally comes out in production numbers. Consider: Dodge built 92,590 Chargers, 17,665 of which were R/T versions. Of those, only 475 were equipped with the big elephant, and only 211 were, like this one, equipped with the heavy duty 4-speed manual transmission. The car’s marvelous condition is the result of a detailed restoration completed in 2005. Its attractive Bronze Metallic paint is one of the bold colors Dodge offered then and it is still pleasing today. The interior is a clean and businesslike affair, with a woodgrain-rim three spoke wheel and console mounted shifter commanding the driver’s attention. The engine bay and its contents are a Mopar fan’s delight: dual four-barrel carbs under that large chromed air cleaner, resting between massive black crinkle-finish valve covers. And below the bright Hemi Orange decks, more noise and fury than most would imagine. Listed in the Chrysler Registry and accompanied by the factory build sheet, this 1968 Hemi 4-speed R/T Charger is both rare and well done.
