Chevrolet doubled the Corvette’s 427CI engine options in 1967 to four, ranging in power from the 390 bhp L36 to the 435 bhp L71. Of course, the L88 was rated at only 430 horsepower and priced to steer the public to the L71; the L88 was for racing customers. 1967 was another year of incremental appearance changes for the Corvette. The big-block cars were given improved side venting and the new “stinger” hood scoop, many of which wore a contrasting striping treatment.

The L71 option combines gobs of power with rock-solid durability, the essence of the big-block Corvette. Under the chromed “Tri-Power” air cleaner are three Holley 2-barrel carbs feeding an aluminum dual-plane intake manifold. The special big-block solid lifter cam and 11:1 compression help generate 435 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 460 lb-ft at 4000 rpm, lofty territory for the street.

Restored by Houston’s famous Nabers Brothers Restoration, this Bloomington Gold Certified L71 coupe is one of only four known to share its rare and very appealing blue-on-black-on-blue color scheme. The exterior color had been changed early in the car’s life, but an inspection of the original trim tag by the legendary Dan Gale revealed its factory Code 900 Tuxedo Black and Bright Blue stripe color specification. Although not original to this car, the Goodyear Speedway Blue Streak tires mounted on genuine factory-original bolt-on aluminum wheels wonderfully complement the beautiful as-original finish. It is important to note that the car comes complete with its original Rallye wheels and correct non-DOT tires.

The factory original side-mounted exhausts and bulging “Stinger” hood scoop both fill out the car’s proportions and clearly announce the potent 427 lurking within. Power travels through a close-ratio M21 four speed and 3.55:1 gears.

The outstanding Code 415 Bright Blue leather interior is correct in every detail, from the clear plastic Bow Tie floor mats to the new-for-’67 console-mounted hand brake and color-keyed seat belts. The finish here, as throughout the car, is of the level necessary to have earned Bloomington Gold Certification, NCRS Top Flight and the Chevy Vette Fest Triple Crown Award.

Factory documentation for this unique and beautiful multiple award-winner include the original tank build-sheet and the very same original trim tag that alerted Dan Gale to its true standing as one of the rarest of the milestone mid-sixties Corvettes.
